Press release Laboratory inauguration at the TH Ohm in Nuremberg

We are now the proud sponsor of a technical laboratory in the field of efi

A growing partnership

The GMC INSTRUMENTS Group is strengthening its partnership with the Nuremberg Institute of Technology Georg Simon Ohm (Ohm). GMC-I Service GmbH is involved with a laboratory sponsorship at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Precision Engineering and Information Technology (efi).

University President Prof. Dr. Niels Oberbeck and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Frank Pöhlau, Dean of the efi faculty, inaugurated the laboratory together with Matthias Wist, Managing Director of GMC-I Service GmbH, Gerhard Frisch, Technical Director and Head of HR, and Dr. Eike Weiß, Head of Development at Gossen Metrawatt GmbH. The KA.340 laboratory at the Keßlerplatz site will now bear the name "GMC-I Service - Labor Siegfried Guggenheimer" for an initial period of three years.

"At the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Precision Engineering and Information Technology, we are particularly pleased that we can further intensify our cooperation with GMC-I Service GmbH through the laboratory sponsorship. The laboratory offers students optimal equipment for practical training and now bears the name of one of our most important partners from industry," said Pöhlau.

Gossen Metrawatt has been sponsoring two laboratories at the Ohm since 2021. One of these two laboratories is now supported by GMC-I Service GmbH, which, like Gossen Metrawatt, is part of the GMC INSTRUMENTS Group.

GMC-I Service is sponsoring the laboratory, in which the majority of efi students complete important internships and project work, for the first time at the faculty. Wist said: "By calibrating and repairing measuring and testing equipment, GMC-I Service GmbH contributes to the sustainability of companies and ultimately society. By naming a laboratory, we want to show our support for the university, among other things. This gives students the opportunity to get to know the range of services and the contribution of our company and our entire GMC-Instruments Group while they are still studying."

Frisch added: "It makes me particularly proud to support the Ohm, where I was once a student myself like many of our colleagues, with the laboratory sponsorship and to stay in touch with the young talents through the resulting cooperation."

For almost 120 years, the GMC INSTRUMENTS GROUP has been synonymous with safety and quality made in Germany in the field of measurement and testing technology. The range of services offered by GMC-I Service GmbH extends from calibrations (DAkkS, ISO and factory calibrations), adjustments, repairs and firmware and software updates on electrical measuring and testing devices to other services such as a spare parts and rental device service and professional test equipment management using a self-service cloud solution. In addition, GMC-I Service offers its customers the option of concluding individual service agreements and customized service contracts.

GMC-I Service is part of the GMC INSTRUMENTS Group, which includes Gossen Metrawatt, Camille Bauer Metrawatt, Dranetz, Prosys, Seaward and Rigel as well as Kurth Electronic, other well-known brands from the measurement and testing technology sector. The group has development and production sites in Germany, Switzerland, England and the USA as well as a global sales network with its own companies and sales partners.

The partnership between the Ohm and commercial enterprises creates a close connection that offers considerable benefits to both sides. At the university, students gain solid specialist knowledge and a practical introduction to research and development. This qualifies them both to participate in exciting research projects and to work as competent specialists for the companies involved.
