30th anniversary of the GMC-I service calibration laboratory

From the birth of the laboratory in 1993 to the successful year-end closing in 2023

 

In December 2023, we celebrated another milestone in the business development of GMC-I Service GmbH. The 30th anniversary of our calibration laboratory.

The maintenance and calibration of measuring and testing devices are an important investment in safety and quality for our customers!

Our Head of After-Sales Service Gerhard Frisch: "To ensure the quality of measurements on products and processes, test equipment must be regularly checked, monitored, calibrated and maintained."

 

Why the regular calibration of measuring and testing devices is not only important, but also a legal requirement and therefore a must:

  • To maintain the necessary legal certainty (e.g. for product liability)
  • To comply with standards and regulations (ISO certification)
  • To ensure the quality of processes and products
  • To comply with legal obligations (BetrSichV, ArbStättV)
  • For occupational health and safety

 

Regular calibration of measuring and testing equipment is therefore essential if it is used in quality-relevant processes. Inaccurate and faulty measuring equipment leads to incorrect and perhaps even very expensive statements to the customer. This is where we can support our customers as part of lifecycle management and safeguard their investment.

 

The following is a brief history of our development in the field of calibration:

1993: The birth of our calibration service: employees had the idea of marketing our internal testing equipment know-how externally. At that time, a significant turnover with calibration services was always seen as a vision in the distant future. Never achievable, but it would still be nice.

 

Jan 1996: After 3 years of "lobbying" within the company and the management about the sense and purpose of a new business segment, the first official monthly turnover of approx. 13,000 DM as a calibration laboratory with factory calibrations.

 

30.09.97: The first turnover, as an accredited DKD body, in the amount of 200.- DM for a recorder, of course including the "DKD certificate" at that time (see picture in gallery). The picture was taken with a Polaroid instant camera.

 

07.12.2001: About 6 years after the start, we finally reached our sales target, at that time still in DM. Service Manager Gerhard Frisch spurred the team on: "We'll keep going - from today, the hunt for the next sales target begins, this time in EUR."

 

23.11.2004: After only 3 years, we had reached the new sales target from 2001 and thus almost doubled our sales from DM to EUR. In these 3 years we were able to convince many new major customers such as Siemens, various vehicle manufacturers such as VW and Audi, medical supply stores and clinics of our services.

 

24.11.2009: After another 5 years, this turnover was doubled again with our calibration laboratory.

 

Dec. 2012: After another 3 years with many new service agreements and expansions of our technical capabilities, the calibration turnover was tripled compared to 2004 and a celebratory dinner was organized as a thank you. Of course, there was then another new target. "It would certainly be nice to achieve 50% of GMC-I Service GmbH's total turnover with calibrations," said Service Manager Gerhard Frisch at the time. At that time, the share of turnover was between 30 and 35%.

 

Jan 2015: This target was also achieved after just 2 years → 50% of total turnover came from calibration for the first time.

 

Nov 2016: We were able to double calibration sales again.

 

Dec 2023: From the first idea 30 years ago until now at the end of 2023, we were able to achieve our highest and best turnover target with our calibration laboratory.

 

 

We owe this development and our successful continued existence to the complete team performance of GMC-I Service GmbH!

Today we not only have a modern calibration laboratory which is accredited by the DAkkS, but we also offer further services as an adjustment & testing center, carry out measurement & inspection reports, as well as DGUV regulation 3 safety tests.
